Description
The medium DG18 (Dichloran Glycerol Agar), formulated in accordance to Hocking and pitt, is a selective medium recommended by ISO 21527- 2 for the count of vital yeasts and molds, in food for human consumption or for animal feed, that have water activity (Aw) lower or equal to 0.95, typical of dry food and dried seeds (dried fruits, spices, grains, nuts, meat and fish dried) with the count techniques of colony at 25°C ± 1°C. The specified method ISO 21527 is not suitable for the count of fungi halophiles-xerophilous, as polypaecilium pisce and basipetospora halophila. The formulation of the medium, according to the ISO 21527-2:2008 standard, contains glycerol (decreases the Aw) and dichloran, a fungicide that inhibits the growth of many fungi limiting the size of the colonies.
The medium must be supplemented with Chloramphenicol selective supplement ( Cod. 76.005) and Glycerol (Cod. 75.025).
