Description

LAURYL SULPHATE BROTH is a medium recommended for the research and presumptive enumeration of fecal coliforms in the waters (APHA and APAT 7020). This medium is also indicated for the search of coliforms for the analysis of food by the MPN (Most Probable Number) according to ISO 4831:2016 and / or E.coli in accordance with ISO 7251:2005 standards.

The coliform bacteria group includes optional aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and gram-negative non-sporigens, fermenting lactose and forming acid and gas at 35°C within 48 hours. Lauryl Sulfate Broth is prepared according to Mallmann and Darby. During their reasearch they got the best results using sodium lauryl sulfate to inhibit organisms other than coliforms.
