Description

King’s B medium is used for confirmation of pseudomonas aeruginosa colonies in water analysis.

The formulation of the medium is in accordance with the standardized methods EN ISO 12780:2002 - UNI EN ISO 16266:2008 - ISTISAN 07/5 reports. Potassium diphosphate increases the concentration of phosphorus, derived from the peptones, which stimulate the production of fluorescein and inhibit the production of pyocyanin. Magnesium phosphate provides the amount of cation needed to produce pioverdine (pigment produced by pseudomonas aeruginosa, but not from othe pseudomonadaceae), which can be evidenced by observing colonies with 360 nm UV light.

The medium must be supplemented with 10 ml/l of Glycerol (cod. 75.025).
