Description

I.U.T.M. is a medium used for the cultivation and isolation of mycobacteria in a test-tube, particularly Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This medium differs from Lowenstein Jensen for the absence of potato starch and red congo.

Mycobacteria tuberculosis grows on the medium with large colonies, dry and yellowish, while Mycobacterium bovis grows modestly with small colonies colorless.

M. tuberculosis var. hominis has an abundant growth  with large colonies, dried, confluent and yellowish.
