PHOSPHATE BUFFERED SALINE (PBS)

Description

Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) is primarily used for suspending cells from monolayer cultures on glass. The cells growing in a monolayer on a glass surface can be suspended by a number of methods, including the application of chelating agents, such as diamino-ethane-tetra-acetic acid (Sodium Versenate 0.02% wt /v), which bind divalent cations (calcium and magnesium ions), allowing the cells to detach from the glass. The PBS solution is then used to rinse the cell sheet free of growth medium prior to application of the chelating agent.
