LOWENSTEIN JENSEN MEDIUM WITHOUT GLYCEROL

Description

Lowenstein Jensen Medium Without Glycerol is a medium used for the cultivation of mycobacteria, in particular of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, both from samples of clinical origin and from pure culture.

The glycerol-free formulation allows the isolation and cultivation of some strains of Mycobacterium bovis sensitive to glycerin. The medium is also suitable for Nocardia isolation (gastric lavage, saliva or mucus). The medium is in accordance with the formulation described by Lowenstein, modified by Jensen who eliminated the use of Congo red, increasing the concetration of malachite green.
