Description
THAYER-MARTIN VCNT AGAR is used for the isolation of pathogenic Neisserieae (N. meningitidis e N. gonorrhoeae) from clinical samples taken from the throat, vagina, rectum and urethra, containing mixed flora of bacteria and fungi. The formulation of the medium, consisting of Agar chocolate with Vancomycin, Colistin and Anisomycin, was studied in 1977 by Martin and Lewis, who increased the concentration of Vancomycin from 3.0 mg/L to 4.0 mg/L to ensure the inhibition of Gram + species and the concentration of Anisomycin at 12.500UI to inhibit especially Candida.
