Description

CHRISTENSEN’S CITRATE AGAR, formulated by Christensen, is a citrate test medium, "alternative" to other citrate media (example Simmon’s); in fact it contains both Peptone and Cysteina and does not require the organism to use citrate as the sole carbone source. In this way, even citrate-negative bacteria can grow on this medium, simultaneously showing different metabolic peculiarities.

The medium is indicated by ISO 21567 and FDA BAM 6 standard methods among the biochemical identification tests in the research of Shigella spp. in food matrices.
