Description

Sabouraud Maltose Agar is an excellent medium for the isolation and maintenance of yeasts and molds. The selective action is due to its pH acid, which hinders the development of most bacteria. 

This medium, unlike Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, contains Maltose as a nutritional source instead of glucose, which in combination with the peptone mix greatly increases the nutritional base. Sabouraud Maltose Agar is particularly used for the isolation of parasitic skin pathogens such as Microsporun spp. and Trichophyton spp.
