Description

Dermatophyte Selective Agar prepared according to the wording proposed by Taplin, Zaias, Rebell and Blank, is used for the isolation and differentiation of dermatophyte fungi in different biological samples (nails, hair, skin).

This medium is used for the isolation of dermatophytes such as microsporum, trichophyton and epidermophyton. Some pathogenic fungi, sensitive to the selective ingredients of this medium, are inhibited in growth; therefore, it is recommended to attach to the plate or tube of Dermatophyte Selective Agar also a plate of Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (cod. 14.0050V), Sabouraud Dextrose Agar + CAF (cod. 14.0051V) or Sabouraud Dextrose Agar + CAF + GENT, to provide an indication of all fungal pathogens present in the sample.
