COLUMBIA CNA AGAR BASE - Pack. 500g

Description

Columbia CNA Agar is a selective medium used for the isolation of micro-organisms involved in nose/throat infections. The principal micro-organisms that are of importance in nose/throat infections from a medical point of view are represented by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes.

This medium has two selective actions that use 2 antibiotics such as Colistin and Nalidixic Acid, that inhibit the Gram negative bacteria thereby highlighting the Gram positive cocci. This medium also permits the highlighting of different types of haemolysis of the Streptococci, Staphylococci and Enterococci, thereby effecting a first identification. The suspect colonies must undergo microscopic observation and biochemical tests.

The medium must be supplemented with a solution of 5% of sheep blood (cod.17.0146).
