Description

The Columbia Agar Base is a highly nutrient medium, used for the isolation and cultivation of demanding pathogens, extracts from clinical and non-clinical origin material. The medium can also be used for the cultivation of non-demanding micro-organisms, such as enteric bacteria: Brucella, Clostridium perfringens or Yersinia pestis.

The Columbia Agar + 5% blood is used for the detection and isolation of Erysipelothrix, Listeria, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and Pneumococcus. The medium is also indicated for the isolation of pure cultures of Campylobacter colonies, then subjected to confirmation test (ISO 10272).

• Might be supplemented with 5% of sheep blood (cod. 17.0141) or horse blood (cod. 17.0159).

The Chocolate Agar is an excellent medium for the development of Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria.

• Might be supplemented with 10% of defibrinated sheep blood (cod. 17.0141) or defibrinated horse blood (cod. 17.0159).
