Description
Dextrose broth is a medium used for the cultivation of a wide variety of micro-organisms. The d-glucose present in the medium allows faster growth of demanding micro-organisms. Dextrose Broth is recommended by APHA for the detection and enumeration of microbial flora in salt plant foods and in brine. The broth with Durham bell is used to detect the fermentation of carbohydrates with gas production.
From Dextrose Broth, with the addition of horse serum, is possible to obtain the Loefler Medium.
