Description
Clostridium Difficile Agar is a selective medium for the isolation of Clostridium difficile, bacillus anaerobic spore-forming, which is the main cause of diarrhea and enterocolitis in combination with antibiotic therapy called Pseudomembranous Colitis (PMC).
This medium differs from George medium for the presence of defibrinated horse blood, replacing the egg yolk emulsion and antibiotics. Cycloserine and Cefoxitin, at lower concentrations, inhibit faecal streptococci, gram negative anaerobic bacilli and various species of clostridium with the exception of Clostridium difficile.
The medium must be supplemented with Clostridium Difficile Selective Supplement (cod. 76.100) and 7%(v/v) of sangue defibrinato di cavallo (Cod. 17.0159)
