Description
Gassner Lactose Agar is used for the isolation of pathogenic enterobacteria from foodstuffs and other samples. Gassner medium is also used for the isolation of Prothoteca spp. The medium contains high concentrations of lactose, aniline blue as a pH indicator and yellow metachromo as an inhibitor of the growth of gram-positive bacteria.
Gassner Lactose Agar, moreover, is particularly suitable for the diagnosis of mastitis and allows detection of low levels of excretion prototheca, even in the presence of contamination by microbial flora, linked to imperfect asepsis in taking the sample. The search can be conducted, even of environmental samples (water swabs) and on fecal material, taking care to keep refrigerated.
