Description
The MUG (4-methylumbelliferil-beta-D glucuronide) presence in the medium, allows to identify Escherichia coli directly on the plate, since MUG is hydrolyzed by the ß-glucuronidase enzyme, owned by 96-97% of the Escherichia coli strains, by releasing the 4-methylumbelliferil compound which results in intense blue fluorescence, detectable by an UV lamp.
