Description
Bile Esculin Azide Agar is a selective medium recommended for the isolation and presumptive identification of group D Streptococci. Group D Streptococci differentiate themselves from other Streptococci by their capacity to hydrolise the aesculin in glucose and esculetin.
The formulation is in accordance with APAT CNR IRSA 7040 (rapid methods A and C) and UNI EN ISO 7899-2 (confirmatory test). The medium is made selective by bile salts, which inhibits gram-positive microorganisms (different from group D Streptococci) and sodium azide, which inhibits gram negative.
